Visiting Lake Titicaca
An old Andean belief says that Lake Titicaca was the birthplace of the sun, and it’s easy to see why the sparkling blue lake decorated and it’s intricate ancient history would inspire such a humbling legend. Pre-Inca traditions thrive on Lake Titicaca’s shores in the shadows of the sloping cathedrals, the brightly colored handmade garments, and the ethereal floating reed islands. To make the most out of this stop, when touring Lake Titicaca be sure not to miss the Sillustani Towers, where locals would bury their nobility, the craftsmanship of the Uros Floating Islands, and the local Aymara Indians hand making textiles on Taquile Island. If you’re lucky enough to pass through on a local holiday, this destination might appear to be ripped from the pages of Homer’s original work more than any other. Ancient festival days are celebrated with overwhelming processions, decorations, and crowds to challenge the Trojan War. Read more about Peru’s highlight destinations…
